Daily Life

The life of the emperor was very luxurious, we always had fine meals, and the best clothes, often times with the color purple. I, personally, liked to go to the chariot races often, I will now tell you how they worked. First we usually had a procession, which was very elaborate. Second, we usually had the sponsor speak to the audience. Next, the racers, the dancers, the musicians, and the priests carried out sculptures of the gods that were going to watch over the games. Then, the racers drew lots for places at the starting gates. Lastly, the race was started by the sponsor dropping a white clothe (called a mappa). The audience could keep track of the race by looking at the dolphin and egg counters. Often times there were about twelve games per day, later it was increased to almost twenty-four. The also had a box set for the emperor to watch the chariot races. Later in the day, we would often times have a dinner party at our house.
